We are delighted to announce the grand opening of our eighth venue, The Bear’s Head, today!
The Journey to Preservation
Earlier this year, when J D Wetherspoon announced the closure of The Bear’s Head, the Penarth community rallied to save their beloved pub. Local resident Nick Simmons led the charge with a petition addressed to the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). The opening paragraph passionately conveyed the sentiments of the community:
“The Bear’s Head is more than just a pub to us. It has served the community of Penarth for many years and continues to be a much-loved establishment with affordable drinks, good quality food, and friendly locals. It is one of the beating hearts of Penarth and it would be tragic to see it go when it has been a staple for so many years here.”
This outpouring of support highlighted the pub’s significance as a community pillar. Motivated by this, Croeso Pubs Ltd embarked on a mission to save The Bear’s Head, culminating in the acquisition of the pub in May.
A Community Triumph
Craig Davies, Director of Croeso Pubs Ltd, expressed his determination to preserve the pub:
“The fact that the community launched a petition when the closure of Bear’s Head was announced demonstrates that this is a place that matters to locals, and this only galvanises our resolve to invest in this ‘must visit’ pub in Penarth.”
Following Wetherspoon’s last day on June 16th, we set to work rejuvenating the venue. We’ve updated its appearance while retaining its beloved features, preparing for a grand reopening at 8 AM today. This marks a new era for The Bear’s Head under our management.
